THE SILHOUETTE (October 26, 2012)

Having been to Hum yesterday afternoon, Marko and I went to Vrh for lunch. The village is on a hill to the east of the Butoniga, a tributary of Mirna. I have heard a lot about a restaurant there, but this was my first visit. The lunch was good, but I would not return to this village on account of the food. It was dusk when we headed home. I immediately spotted Motovun in the distance. Perched on its hill and crowned with its fortifications and a tower, its silhouette looked stunning. I had no idea Vrh could be seen from the hilltown. But the view from the road going down into the Butoniga valley was so enticing that it kept coming back to me all night long. Between dreams, none of which I remember, I saw Motovun over and over again. Now I know that I will be going to Vrh whenever an opportunity arises. The silhouette alone is worth it.
