WHAT ELSE, INDEED (May 10, 2014)
It is sunny and balmy. I am standing on my terrace with one foot on the parapet, eating cornflakes with yogurt from a glass bowl, and staring at the Mirna valley below. My eyes wander from the vineyards just under the Motovun hill to the stretch of the Adriatic on the horizon. And then they wander from Grožnjan to the north of the river to Vižinada to the south. Out of the blue, a question pops up in my mind: “What else could I possibly want?” It does not take more than a few seconds for the answer to pop up, as well: “My beloved right next to me!” I almost laugh at the question-and-answer session I have unexpectedly witnessed. “What else,” I mumble to myself and return to the house to wash the bowl and the spoon in the kitchen sink. Having done that, I gulp down two food-supplement pills with the remaining yogurt, and toss the plastic bottle into the garbage. “What else, indeed,” I mumble to myself once again and crack a wry smile.
