THE DAY OF THE SANDALS (May 9, 2014)

I wore sandals today, but only in the middle of the afternoon. Both the morning and evening were too cold for such an extravagance. I expect to be able to wear them tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, but that will be that for a while. Another period of wet and cold weather is expected once again. So, how do I feel about this special day? The day of the sandals, that is. I feel a bit confused, I must admit. Well, I feel confused quite a bit, as a matter of fact. Should I declare this day as the first day fit for sandals, or should I wait for another week or two? God only knows. Still, it was an enormous pleasure having my sandals on after so many months in walking shoes. Wriggling toes. Sweating soles. And my bare feet caressed by the sun. The walking shoes already feel like history after only a few hours of unexpected bliss. God only knows what sort of weather lurks behind the corner, though. I can only hope I will not be laughing at myself in a few short days about my premature celebration.

Addendum I (May 19, 2014)

As it turns out, I rushed it a bit so many days ago. I managed to stay in my sandals for a couple of days only. The period of wet and cold weather was quite special, indeed. Even in my winter clothes, I froze time and again. But it is different today. The sky is clear and it is quite balmy. The good spell is likely to last for several days, or so the hapless meteorologists predict. In short, this should have been the day of the sandals. Alas, I was eager to celebrate it as soon as possible. And the eagerness is still with me to this day. I can only hope I will not be laughing at myself one more time.

Addendum II (June 2, 2014)

It is the beginning of June already, but I do not wear my sandals except on a rare occasion and only for a few hours in the early afternoon. Even when it is not raining, it is way too cold for such an extravagance. In fact, the very notion of the day of the sandals seems to be outdated by now. The switch from shoes to sandals is nigh ridiculous at this day and age, and so is the switch from sandals to shoes. Now that the climate is rapidly changing, one wears either shoes or sandals in accordance with the weather. And that is all there is to it. This is the end of the story. For I do not wish to be laughing at myself over and over again.
