UNINVITING (November 11, 2014)
The weather in Istria is quite uninviting. How uninviting is it, though? It is raining every day. When it is not raining, the darkest of clouds are ominously low. It gets pretty foggy every once in a while, but the fog seems to be lurking behind the corner even when the air is clear. One way or another, there is little light. Although it is not cold, the dampness is most unpleasant. More often than not, it feels cold. For all these reasons, one feels like sticking close to the hearth. One ventures outside only if one must. Whence a vague feeling of being oppressed by the weather. What is worse, it appears that it will stay just as it is right now for days, weeks, months, maybe even years. The weather feels fixed. Actually, rigid. As if made out of concrete, the sky seems to be ready to crash to the ground and squash everything in sight. This is how uninviting the weather in Istria has been for days on end. One cannot but wonder whether it will ever change for the better.
