THIS SIMPLE TEST (May 15, 2014)
Democracy is hard to miss. It has been bantered about for decades, centuries, if not millennia. Arguments for and against are all over the place. Now, consider this simple test. Think hard about those you know well who could lead your own community. And lead it well. Can you come up with a single name that fits the hefty bill? Is there such a hero in your midst? Or are you forced again and again to consider the least bad candidate for the awesome task? Think again, though. If democracy is about pitiful things, such as the least bad candidates for the task, is it worth your while? Is it worth going through all the laborious motions that democracy entails? If there is no-one who could lead your own community, and lead it well, how about abandoning the charade and not voting ever again? Think anew about this simple test, though. Chances are that you have failed it again and again. And to your own chagrin.
