BUS, CAR (May 16, 2014)
On my way to Zagreb, I walked to Livade this morning. The bus I catch there takes me straight to the Croatian capital via Istarske Toplice, Buzet, Rijeka, and Karlovac, where it stops only briefly. As I was walking down the Motovun hill, I started thinking about the ride to Livade if I had a car. It would be quite a nuisance, I realized at once. To begin with, where would I park it in Livade? I would have to find someone who had a yard big enough to keep my car for several weeks at a time. As well as several times a year. Also, the yard would have to be safe enough to leave the car there. But who do I know in Livade with such a wonderful yard? It took me a few minutes to figure out that I would not go by bus if I had a car. In fact, I would go straight to Zagreb without even going to Livade. Which only goes to show how foreign owning a car is to me. It is so foreign that it takes me precious few minutes to realize its elementary implications.
