ENEMIES, FRIENDS (May 15, 2014)
There was much merriment when I appeared in Motovun this afternoon. “Hey,” many of my friends reported happily, “we were just about to call the police about your sudden disappearance!” Due to my trip to Italy, I was missing the whole morning. A sweetheart that I am, though, I immediately thought of my enemies. My unexpected disappearance must have been quite a joy to many of them. To make everyone happy, I announced to all and sundry that I would be going to Zagreb tomorrow morning. “How long will you be away?” everyone asked. And I could tell from the expressions on their faces whether they were sad or happy about the news. “God only knows,” I would respond with a big grin on my face and raise my hands toward heavens. As all the wise people know, enemies are friends of sorts, too.
