SQUARE KILOMETERS IN VIEW (June 7, 2014)

We are spending much of our time on the terrace of my house. The weather is quite wonderful, too. My beloved loves the terrace, and I am delighted. As I keep telling her, we must find way of enjoying the house to our best ability. As we were gabbing about the staggering view, I came up with a quick calculation. There are about five kilometers to the ridges both to our right and to our left, and there are about fifteen kilometers straight ahead. That would make around one-hundred and fifty square kilometers, of which we can actually see a bit less than a hundred square kilometers. “Imagine,” I turned toward my beloved, “a hundred square kilometers in view!” She was not impressed, though. “The swifts are flying pretty low today,” she said. When I returned to the area we can actually see, she laughed. “Someone mentioned people who have to put their farts into their diaries,” she said, “and I immediately thought of you!” We laughed and laughed. Indeed, square kilometers in view are for the birds.
