MUCH TO LEARN FROM A TODDLER (May 7, 2014)
I am watching a toddler explore the hotel terrace. It can walk, but not too well. When it falls, it explores whatever it finds on the ground. Here is a wilted flower, over there a dry twig. When it crawls to a chair, it props itself up, stands unsteadily, and bangs the chair seat with both hands. It makes a few steps and falls to the ground again. Unperturbed, it picks up a pebble. When it tries to put it in its mouth, one of its parents jumps in and takes the pebble away. There is no fuss about the intrusion. It props itself up one more time and waddles to the nearest tree. After a few bangs with both hands, it turns around and heads for the hotel stairs. It crawls up the stairs, but one of the parents brings it back to the terrace. And so on, and so forth. There is much to learn from a toddler. It is interested in everything, but not for long. And the terrace is huge. Actually, it is humongous. But no impediment is too great to complain about for long, if at all. Hey, what is that thing over there?
