Slavko Linić is in the news. He is the Croatian minister of finance no longer. Zoran Milanović, the prime minister of the country, has kicked him out of the government yesterday. The newspapers are all over the place about the mess, which may well lead to early elections. Although I find the whole government appalling, I do not expect the next one to be any better. Croatia is incapable of a government worth talking about. And the ousted minister of finance is a good example of the quagmire. Four years after the onset of continuous decline of the country’s economy he embarked upon rigorous taxation as the remedy. Throughout his reign, it was clear to anyone with any brains in Croatia that he was only feeding the gargantuan government behind him. And gargantuan it definitely is, for it employs more than a half of all employed in the country. In the end, he only contributed to two more years of continuous decline of the country’s economy. Of all the countries in the European Union, only Croatia and Cyprus are still in recession six years after the last financial crisis. In fact, it is depression, but the term is avoided like the plague. Good riddance, Slavko Linić! As for the future, religion is the only way forward. Luckily, Croatia is more Catholic than the pope.
