LA DESTINATION DU MONDE (January 21, 2014)
Gustav Courbet’s “L’origine du monde” (1866) popped up on my screen in one of my searches of the World Wide Web. I was looking for something entirely different, which led to the painting’s felicitous title, but his cunt felt like home at once. Whenever I come across it, which I do rarely as of late, the lavish bush of pubic hair delights me no end. Cunts like his are nowhere to be seen nowadays, which is yet another proof that the world as we know it is heading toward its destination. Toward its demise, that is. Thus I can easily imagine Courbet revisiting the subject, but with carefully cropped pubic hair. A thin vertical strip would be the best, I reckon. A bonier bum would complete the composition splendidly. But the title of the new painting is already etched in my mind: “La destination du monde.” Well done, Courbet!
