“CHINA EXPORTS POLLUTION TO US, STUDY FINDS” (January 21, 2014)
Thus The New York Times today. “Emissions from China’s export industries are carried across the Pacific Ocean to the United States, according to new research,” the newspaper elaborates. Surprise, surprise. But is there not a tall wall all around China? I skipped the article, for the title and byline say it all, but I can bet that it does not mention that America has exported industrial production to China with China’s industrial exports in mind. Stupidly, that tall wall was assumed to exist, no doubt. But if capitalism is global, pollution is surely global, too. Put differently, pollution cannot be exported. Welcome to reality, America! And enjoy it while you still can.
