A COMPENSATION OF SORTS (October 10, 2014)

The weather in Zagreb is stunning. Surprisingly, it beats the weather in Motovun by a wide margin. Warm and sunny, it feels just like summer. The pedestrian area in the center is packed. There is hardly any table to be had in untold outdoor cafes and restaurants. Everyone is in summer gear. There is much laughter everywhere around. What is more, the balmy spell is supposed to last for at least a week, but many people hope it will last much longer. At least a month, say. According to many a snippet of conversation one can overhear in the merry crowd, this is understood by quite a few people as a compensation of sorts, for the summer was simply awful this year. Much rain and many a storm. Would that Mother Nature were so considerate, though. Compensation is farthest from her mind, to be sure. Rather, it is likely to be but a brief respite before yet another storm.
