“TOTAL BOSS KILLED IN PLANE CRASH” (October 21, 2014)

Thus The Guardian today. “Christophe de Margerie, who was killed when a private jet collided with a snow plough, was one of the world’s most recognizable oil executives,” explains the newspaper. Total boss is unknown to me, but the news still enticed a smile. The picture that comes with the article shows a pudgy bald man with mustache. In his sixties, he seems to be on the short side, as well. A pitiful creature, by all counts. Browsing through the article, I learned that the accident happened in Moscow, of all places. In addition, the driver of the snow plough was drunk. Total regrets the demise of its chairman and chief executive officer. France’s prime minister, Manuel Valls, said that he had lost a personal friend. “France is losing an extraordinary business leader,” he said. And Pierre Moscovici, France’s former finance minister, said that he was “a great captain of industry, a patriot, and a man of conviction and friendship.” Wow! Total is a global, integrated energy producer and provider, the world’s fifth-ranking international oil and gas company, and so on. Total boss still entices a smile, as does his lofty title. I must be jealous of his greatness, I reckon.
