“LISTEN, OBAMA’S IN TOWN AND HE’D LOVE TO HAVE DINNER” (July 14, 2014)

Thus The New York Times today. “President Obama is having increasingly frequent late-night dinners, here and abroad, with companions from fields like architecture, film, art and literature,” elaborates the newspaper. Splendid. Now, how about a late-night dinner anytime this week? To the best of my knowledge, Obama has not been to Motovun yet, and Benjamin’s would be just to his liking, I am sure. Even Italians come over for a good meal, and many of them return year after year. As for the fields to chat about over dinner, all of the above would be fine with me with the exception of film. I used to love it years ago, but I have become quite disenchanted by it as of late. Architecture is also fading from my heart and mind, and fast, but art and literature are very much in my focus still. Although I am rather critical of both, Obama is likely to find my attitudes amusing, if not even hilarious. There will be much laughter, I bet. At any rate, I expect to hear from the White House any day soon, and I look forward to a good chat. In the meanwhile, my very best to Obama.
