THE PURPLE BUZZ (July 15, 2014)

The one and only remaining lavender bush on my terrace is in bloom. Although its northern half has been dead for a few years, the southern half is thriving. The spikes bearing flowers are longer than ever before. And the flower whorls at their tips are larger than I have ever seen them. Their color is more intensive, as well. The purple is vivid this year. Which is why the bush is swarming with bees. As they land now on one whorl and now on another, the whorls on their long spikes keep nodding and nodding. The bush seems to be excited by the intrepid insects. The purple buzz is amazing to witness on a sunny morning. After so many rainy days, the lavender seems to be no less than happy. It is high time to replant the planters on the terrace with lavender bushes. About ten of them could be thriving there this delicious morning. If only I were as zealous as the bees…
