HOW WE MIGHT FINANCE THE NEXT WAR (January 28, 2003)

Every now and then I get a little something from Jack Borden, the founder of a charitable organization promoting the awareness of the sky, For Spacious Skies. We met on the World Wide Web through our joint friend, Bob CollĂ©n. They both live in Western Massachusetts. A few weeks ago I got from Jack several wonderful pictures of special sky conditions, but his electronic-mail message this morning was rather different. “How we might finance the next war,” was all it said to comment on the picture showing a military plane plastered with corporate insignia, like a racing car. Texaco is most prominent among the sponsors, but Kodak, Microsoft, Coca Cola, and Tide did well, too. The image was so felicitous I could not but send it to a few friends in turn.
