ALL TOLD (May 12, 2003)
In preparation for my move from England to Istria, I weighed my boards. Covered with acrylic paint on both sides and measuring two by thirty by forty-three centimeters, an average pine board weighs a bit more than a kilogram. Ten boards weigh about eleven kilograms. All told, my stock of three-hundred-odd boards weighs about a third of a ton. A lot of weight for so-called conceptual art, if that is what it is. Are not concepts, artistic or otherwise, meant to defy gravity?
