THE MORNING BLISS (July 19, 2015)

As the current heatwave is gathering momentum, I am getting up ever earlier in the morning. It was a quarter to seven when I crawled out of bed this morning. This is the only time of day when it is blissfully cool. Facing west, my terrace is the place to be. It is a joy to recline naked under the blue sky and bang into my laptop. By half past eight, it will be time to leave the terrace, close all the windows and shutters, and turn on the lights. The day will be horrendous, I can already tell from the light haze that has gathered along the Mirna valley below. According to meteorologists, it will be around forty degrees Celsius in the afternoon. Be that as it may, it is a joy to be out at this time. The sleep lost will be taken back when the heat becomes unbearable. An hour or two in the afternoon will only help get up even earlier the next morning. The sun is up around five o’clock, anyway. But the morning bliss is not to be missed during a major heatwave, such as this one.
