A week ago I bought eight wonderful pears in the Vivoda shop on Gradiziol. Some were small and some big; some were reddish and some green. Untreated pears like these cannot be found in supermarkets. I ate one the same day. It was delicious, but it was on the hard side. I decided to let the pears ripen a bit on the kitchen counter, which receives a lot of sunlight in the afternoon. Today I found a big worm climbing up the tiled kitchen wall. I picked it up and tossed it into my garden. Perhaps it can survive there. And then I inspected all the pears. The worm must have come from one of them. It did not take me long to find a hole close to the bottom of one pear. It was on the soft side, too. I cut through it and found the blackened area around the seeds in the middle. Then I removed the spoiled bits and ate the rest. It was perfect. Worms can be trusted in their choice of fruit. They always go for the best.
