There are ever more beggars in central Zagreb. Their numbers keep surprising. However, an ever-smaller number of them is recognizable as such. Male or female, young or old, most of them are dressed like everyone else. Which is why I cringe every time anyone approaches my table in one of my favorite watering holes. Many others must feel the same way when I approach their tables, too. When it comes to beggars, no-one can be sure any longer. The confusion is complete and total. We are all beggars in the Croatian capital nowadays.
