THE STATE OF HOMELESSNESS (August 29, 2012)
I have been homeless all my life. And I have grown to like it. But then I came to Istria, the only place on the planet I could call home. Both of my parents hail from the peninsula, and their roots go back for many generations. Silly of me, but this is where I felt at home for the first time ever. Not for long, though. For this is the first place on the planet where I have been called a foreigner, as well. But I am not complaining. Foreigner is the way to be. The state of homelessness is actually a blessing. Which is why I would like to thank Istrians for the lesson they have taught me rather late in my life. It was painful at first, I must admit, but all good lessons are perforce painful. At long last, I am homeless for true. Even better, I would never wish it to be otherwise. If I am still in Istria, it is as a merry foreigner. Most sincere thanks all around.
