THE SAUNA (June 22, 2012)

Sitting at Marko’s over our morning coffee, we chatted about everything under the sun. And then someone came up with the sauna. Everyone jumped in with the best personal experiences. But all the stories ended up by focusing upon the relief following the sweating. I talked about the joy of rolling in the snow. Someone else came up with the bliss of jumping into a cold lake. A standard cold shower was hardly enough after all the sweating we have been through the last few days. Remarkably, no-one among us even noticed why we ended up talking about the sauna. It took me a few hours to realize that it was all about the current heatwave. All of us are dying for a relief of some kind, which seems to be escaping us all the while. Thus we are reduced to telling stories about it. Oh, how good that snow felt on my skin some twenty-five years ago!
