THE MOTOVUN PROPHECY (December 21, 2012)

We are on our way to Motovun on the very day the world is supposed to come to a sorry end. How romantic! Or how prosaic, perhaps! Assuming that everything will be all right in spite of the so-called Mayan prophecy, which is surely in the air today, we plan to spend ten days in relative piece. Both of us are looking forward to the fireplace in the afternoon and evening, but we are also hoping the weather will be amenable enough for a few long walks in the morning. My beloved needs the best break she can get, for she has been busy as hell the last couple of months, but I am also tired of Zagreb after a full month in the hubbub. The Christmas crowds have been especially grating. As usual this time of year, we will head back on the first day of the next year. So far, everything is going according to plan. And I am thus willing to bet that this is exactly how it will be through the end of this funny year and the beginning of the next. The Motovun prophesy, as it were.

Addendum I (December 22, 2012)

The Mayan prophecy is in shambles by now, for it is just past midnight. However, the Motovun prophecy is on course. We have made it from Zagreb to Motovun without a glitch. Well, we were delayed by road works in Pazin, where the local idiots had no idea how to direct the traffic amidst major changes to the access roads leading to Motovun, but we managed the whole trip according to plan. The stars were squarely on our side. Which is why we look forward to the rest of our visit to the Istrian boondocks. So far, so good. As for the Mayan prophecy, we are not complaining. It was idiotic from the very start. God knows who started it all, but it has come to a sorry end.

Addendum II (January 1, 2013)

We are back in Zagreb. Driving from Motovun on the first of the year was predictably easy. After a long night partying, few people were on the road. As expected, the Motovun prophecy came to full fruition. Everything went according to plan from start to finish. We had a few great walks. Not a piece of firewood remained in the house. My bet came true, that is. If prophecies are needed at all, straightforward ones come fully recommended.
