ROTHKO, KANDINSKY (January 3, 2012)
We have been going to the Vinodol Restaurant for years. It is our, as it were, canteen. Early on, the walls of the restaurant were covered with faded posters of modern artists: Kandinsky, Rodin, Rothko. As of late, things have been changing, though. An architect has been hired to doll up the place. By and by, we have become accustomed to the gradual changes. The posters have disappeared. Walls have been repainted. New lighting fixtures have been installed. All of a sudden, a Rothko poster has appeared in the toilet for men. Delighted by the discovery, for I am rather dubious about the American artist’s fame, I could hardly wait for my beloved to come out of the toilet for women. “Any changes?” I asked eagerly. “Yes,” she reported nonchalantly, “now we have a Kandinsky poster!” At long last, the two giants have ended up in their rightful places. Toilets for men and women, no less. Pace Kandinsky!
