ON GREATNESS (June 5, 2012)

Arnold Trampe just sent me a mobile-phone text-message. He asked for a name of a person from Motovun. “Hope Zagreb is doing well,” he concluded. I responded at once and in quite some detail. Assuming this could be of interest, I added the name of the person’s father, for instance. “You are great,” he wrote back. “But you already know this.” I was quick to respond: “Of course! But thanks for the comment.” And then I added: “Greatness can be annoying at times…” I could see his smirk already. “Yes,” he wrote back in a jiffy, “I understand. “ And then he added: “It’s a heavy load.” Now, how would I ever manage in the Motovun boondocks without friends like Arnold?!
