“C” (June 5, 2012)

Several times a year, but not too often, I see a curious pattern in my field of vision. Bright and silvery, it looks like a jagged letter “c” that pulsates in front of me for a while. Slightly to the left of the field’s center, it is most visible when I turn my gaze to the right. This pattern usually disappears rather quickly, but today it stayed with me for about a quarter of an hour. I was a bit concerned at first, but then I focused on the phenomenon itself. The frolicking zigzags are kind of beautiful, too. I can see them when I close my eyes, as well. Sadly, they do not fit my geometric paintings at all. The uneven curvature of the “c” is the main problem, though. Although it can be construed as an entoptic form of sorts, it is quite far from anything I have painted so far. Anyhow, my brain is sending me a message. The connection with the Latin alphabet is irrelevant, of course, but at least I have a name for it. And “c” it definitely is.
