I learned from Hrvoje Bielen about a month ago that he reads my writings from a Rich Site Summary (RSS) feed. This feature is used by those who do not want to go through all the steps required to access a website they often visit. Hrvoje gets not only every piece I write, but every update of it, as well. Thus he can see all the corrections of my writings, which he says are rather interesting on occasion. Eager as I am to publish everything I come up with as soon as possible, I often find boo-boos of all sorts as soon as they are published on the World Wide Web. In fact, I often use the first published version of my writings for their proper review. As a consequence, it often takes me two or three attempts before I give up searching for awkward sentences, repeated words or expressions, silly typos, and the like. More often than not, they come in quick succession. Hrvoje gets to see my fumbling in gory detail. Which is why I sometimes feel sorry for him and others like him the last month or so. If only I were a bit more careful before I publish my writings… Sadly, my unease does not seem to help at all. In spite of the growing awareness of my relentless fumbling, I stick to my habits. And I stick to them with abandon. RSS be damned.
