“EUROPE PRESSURES INTENSIFY” (August 22, 2012)

Thus The Wall Street Journal today. “German Chancellor Angela Merkel faces one of the toughest choices of her career in the coming weeks: whether to risk the unraveling of the eurozone, or her government,” the newspaper elaborates. Exactly. Congratulations, too. There is no mincing of words for once. I would add only a few words. If Merkel’s government collapses, so will the next German government that attempts to stop the unraveling of the eurozone. In short, the eurozone is kaput. The next question is about the fate of the European Union. The euro is far from its only problem. All its major projects in the doldrums, the Union is on its hind legs for sure. Threat of war is the only thing that can save it at this point. All else is sheer gibberish. Luckily for Europe, there are threats of war aplenty.
