FROM ABOVE (June 29, 2012)
Saša Juvan has brought paragliding to Motovun. With the help of a few friends, this year he cleared a large section of brush under the lower square, where he made his launching area. It is visible from many tables along the parapet of the square. Now he takes people up in the air for a reasonable fee. They sit in front of him, and so they have a splendid view of the hilltown and the lush countryside around it. The wind blowing up the Motovun hill can take Saša and his passenger quite high up on a nice day. As I was watching him take off alone a few minutes ago, I wondered why I had not felt a pull to join him for a flight. In fact, I have felt completely indifferent to the unexpected opportunity. And I was surprised by the answer, which came to me out of nowhere. A few years ago, while I was still in love with Motovun, I would certainly wish to see it from above. I would fly with Saša within days, if not hours. My feelings have changed, though. And they have changed to such an extent that I could not care less how the hilltown looks from above, from the sides, or from below. Thank you very much, Saša.
