IT TAKES AN ENTIRE WEEKEND (December 12, 2011)
Three days ago, Friday, the second day of the Brussels summit of the European Union’s leaders dedicated to the euro’s many troubles, the stockmarkets went up. Apparently, investors were quite happy with the summit’s results. Today, Monday, the stockmarkets are going down. And how. Following the weekend, the summit’s results look much less appealing to the intrepid investors. Of course, it was more than obvious that the summit was a flop even on Friday, if not much earlier, but investors are not quick-witted. Among the brightest among the humans, it still takes an entire weekend for them to figure out what is what. Sad but true. Luckily, this is a welcome finding for the study of human intelligence. Dull as they are, it takes an entire weekend for the poor things to figure things out no matter how obvious they may be.
