ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE (June 7, 2011)
As I still cannot get the last issue of The Economist in Zagreb, and as I still plan to come up with my usual five or six letters to the editor by midweek, I turned to the World Wide Web. I often check the mighty newspaper this way, just to get a quick look at what is going on, but I do not enjoy reading it on the computer screen. Texts that are longer than what can fit on a single screen require paper, at least in my own mind. At any rate, it was clear that I was running out of options. “Sorry,” I read on the screen, “we are performing essential maintenance on our website…” I tried again a short while later, but with the same luck. What with the pope’s visit to Zagreb and the essential maintenance in London, should I continue with my plans, though? Plans are only plans, anyway.
