AT MY HAIRDRESSER’S (April 13, 2011)

This morning I not only wasted more than an hour waiting for my turn at my hairdresser’s in Zagreb, but I also had to witness the works that the fellow ahead of me wanted. About my age, he first wanted his hair washed. Then he wanted a very special cut. Every hair had to be in its place. All the while, he watched the hairdresser like a hawk. After much combing, he wanted his hair lacquered. Even after he got up from the chair, he wanted a few things fixed. When he finally left and I took the chair, the hairdresser told me that the fellow called yesterday afternoon to reserve his place in the queue. In addition, he called this morning to be sure everything was going according to his plan. “He’s quite peculiar about his hair,” the hairdresser chuckled. And I was the lucky witness of his ways. Next time I have to go to my hairdresser’s, I will have to call just to make sure his needs have been taken care of well ahead of my visit. The hairdresser is sure to remember him, too.
