VOTING FOR SPRING (March 8, 2014)

I went for a long walk around the Croatian capital in search of parks and wooded areas. I was eager to see how all sorts of plants were voting about winter and spring. And the walk was most informative, as well as delightful. Most bushes are in leaf by now. And so are many smaller trees. Bigger trees are only budding, and the buds are bound to open any day now. But I also saw a number of trees in bloom. Most of them were fruit trees, and plums were foremost among them. The only thing that could hurt the leaves and flowers would be frost. A few days of freezing weather would kill them all. Some snow would be just fine, though. All in all, plants in Zagreb are overwhelmingly voting for spring. And who am I to contradict them? Not to mention the poor meteorologists, who are stuck with the outdated tools of their trade. The plants have been around well past the animals, let alone all the weather records. And I am voting for spring together with them.
