THE TANTRIC IDEAL (March 8, 2014)

The International Women’s Day leaves me cold nowadays. I did not even congratulate it to my beloved this morning. In a sense, women have made it in this world. And yet, it is none the better for it. Are women themselves better off, though? Most likely they are, but only in the developed world. They are better paid, and they are better placed than ever before. All this leads to many difficult choices, such as that between the career and motherhood, but the advance is palpable nonetheless. Which partly justifies my indifference to the holiday, but only partly. My disappointment with women runs too deep for justifications of any kind. In particular, the tantric ideal of bringing together the strengths of both women and men is nigh forgotten by now. Bodies and minds united can do wonders. And this is the only ideal worth pursuing in the long run. Both women and men can be better off by working closely together rather than separately or even against each other. The best one can hope for at this juncture is the International Women and Men’s Day. Farfetched as it sounds, it is the only way forward as long as the human species survives.
