Reports from Ukraine are all over the place. And I check the news every few hours as of late. Now I read that Kiev is defying Moscow by sending troops to the beleaguered east in spite of the Russian forces amassed at the border. Then I read that Kiev is offering an olive branch to Moscow by agreeing on referenda concerning local autonomy in the east. Only a short while later I read that there are a number of dead after a gunfight in one of the towns under siege by pro-Russian protesters. What is going on? Although these reports are coming from trustworthy organizations such as British Broadcasting Corporation and Reuters, it is clear that the embattled reporters do not have a clear view of what is happening in Eastern Ukraine as a whole. And the news coming from American, Russian, and Ukrainian governments is ideological to boot. The war of words is unpalatable, too. What am I to do in this mess? That is, how am I going to get to reports about Ukraine that are worth reading? Having considered this question from all sides, I lit upon the most obvious of solutions: it is high time for me to quit checking the news about Ukraine! The whole situation is way beyond my comprehension, let alone my ability to do anything about it. Hooray!
