ROADKILL (June 20, 2014)
When you see roadkill from a car or a bus, you feel kind of sorry for the flattened cat or hedgehog or snake. Poor things. But when you see roadkill while you walk, you realize it is quite a boon for zillions of insects. They are innumerable. And the buzz is nearly deafening. I just walked past a squashed cat on my walk to Livade, where I took a bus to Zagreb, and I was quite stunned by what I saw. To my surprise, I felt kind of happy for the insects. All sorts of flies and wasps were there for the feast. This time around, I did not feel at all sorry for the cat. What was the stupid thing doing on the road, anyway?
