PIECES, WORDS (January 17, 2014)
We are a bit more than two weeks into 2014, but there are fifty pieces and ten-thousand words behind me already. Remembering the first day of the year, when I felt puny in view of the yawning yearbook in front of me, I feel no less than elated. Over the moon, to be exact. As well as a bit worried, I must admit. Actually, my feelings are stronger than that. Much stronger. My continuing fascination with the number of pieces and words written not only worries me, but it also revolts me on occasion. It nauseates me, as a matter of fact. Pieces and words that matter should be my only concern at this stage of my life. Which means that I should write when and only when I have anything that matters to write about. Otherwise, I should not write at all. Zilch. Alas, that is but a goal that is still way ahead of me! And a worthy one, no doubt whatsoever. In the meanwhile, I am bound to continue impressing myself with the number of pieces and words. Returning to my boast, 2014 has started very well. At this rate, I will be a silly but happy old man by the end of the year, I reckon. Alleluia!
Addendum (January 30, 2014)
We are a day before the end of the first month of 2014, but there are one-hundred pieces and nineteen-thousand words behind me already. Wow! The year has started well, indeed. In spite of all my misgivings concerning the old divide between quality and quantity, I am delighted once again. Come to think of it, perhaps I am actually about quantity rather than quality. Deep down, it is quantity that really matters to me. God only knows what quality means, anyway.
