I just responded to a lengthy online survey of the Harvard Graduate School of Design alumni, which their alumni association warned me about a few days ago. Prepared for the grueling task, I did well. I finished the task within the allotted time, too. But I got into trouble at the very last question. When asked about my country of residence, I could not find Croatia among the countries listed. I looked under Hrvatska, as well, but without any success. The option to write the country’s name myself did not exist, either. After some hesitation, I selected Bosnia and Herzegovina as my country of residence. Phew! This done, I wrote to the person who organized the survey and warned him about the surprising omission. For crying out loud, Croatia is officially a country since 1991, and ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is still missing from many lists of the sort I encountered today. What are Croatian embassies and consulates around the world doing in their spare time, I wonder?
