ONLY A LULL (April 1, 2014)
When I check the news in the evening, I have the attitude of a superannuated emperor: “Let us see what the humans have come up with today?” I am looking for entertainment and nothing but entertainment, of course. The same holds this evening among evenings. “Anything new about Ukraine?” I check. For better or worse, there is nothing worth reporting. “Anything new about the missing jet?” There is nothing worth reporting, once again. “Anything else?” It does not take me long to start feeling annoyed. The way things are going, there is no entertainment worth its name. “Fucking humans,” the emperor in me is raging out of the blue, “what about me?!” But there is not a peep on the World Wide Web on this score. And so I abandon my search. I shove my laptop away in disgust. Deep inside, though, I know this is only a lull. There will be entertainment galore soon enough. Humans are great fun, I know very well. As far as entertainment is concerned, they rarely miss a beat. Even an emperor must give them a respite every once in a while. “All right,” I sigh kindly, “but do not make me wait for too long!” As emperors go, and especially superannuated ones, I am a reasonable chap, too.
