NO-ONE (May 20, 2014)

As I am sipping my drink, I am watching a photographer roaming around Café Europa that is hosting the Zagreb Jewish Film Festival, also known as the Festival of Tolerance. In his late twenties or early thirties, he apparently knows what he is doing. Equipped with a sturdy stand, a lever for pointing, and a screen, his camera seems to be a wonder of technology, too. He takes many a photograph, as well as quite number of short clips. There is a professional air to everything he does. There is no waste in any of his moves. At some point he notices that I am following him with my eyes. Our eyes meet for a split second. And then he looks away and moves his camera to yet another location. “No-one,” I can almost hear him. Out of the blue, I experience a rush of joy. That is me! Would that I were invisible, as well.
