All of a sudden, I wished to draw my rendering of the Aum sign in perspective. I took my notebook, which is getting crowded with weird drawings as of late, outlined the two-by-three grid with a ballpoint pen, and then drew the sign with a fountain pen. The drawing was neither here nor there, but I kept staring at it for quite some time. By and by, I realized that the drawing corresponded to what I actually saw when I looked at my painting of the sign, which is displayed on my livingroom wall. It is perforce in perspective all the time. Its strict geometry is only in my mind. This discovery behind me, I wished to draw the Aum sign in all sorts of perspectives, thus portraying it as though it is floating in space. In fact, I wished to see it in a cartoon. Realizing that my notebook would not be the right place for such an exercise, I decided to write about it, instead. Whence this clever piece. Phew!

Addendum (June 10, 2017)

Animafest, the world festival of animated film, is taking place in Zagreb this week. As I was walking past the merry festival crowd earlier today, it crossed my mind that my rendering of the Aum sign could be animated. It could be seen from different angles and distances in a smooth sequence. There would be perspectives galore, as well. Although the film should not be longer than a few minutes, it would make the sign itself unforgettable. As for the colors, I would make the sign white and the background black, just like my painting of it. The film could start from some distance at one side of the sign, get closer to it, circle around it once or twice, and end by departing from the sign to the other side. Ah, I can see the whole film already! Wonderful! The only problem is that my animated film stops right here. Alas, I would not lift a finger to see it made, let alone shown at another Animafest! Or anywhere else, for that matter.
