EXAGGERATED SMILES (May 11, 2014)
The Google browser celebrates many a date in the calendar with appropriate cartoons, many of which are animated. Most of them are quite to my liking, but today’s cartoon annoys me no end. It shows a woman with two children on bicycles. She is in the middle. A girl is in front, and a boy is trailing behind. They are all wearing helmets and colorful capes. And they all have exaggerated smiles plastered on their faces. “What is this?” I growled as soon as I opened my laptop this morning. “International Biking Day?” When I clicked on the cartoon, it learned that it was Mother’s Day in America. My mother would never be caught riding a bicycle with me, though. More important, she would never smile like someone demented. And thus I can hardly wait for this vaunted day to pass. Each and every time I go to the World Wide Web, I growl at those exaggerated smiles on the screen of my favorite browser: “Biking be damned!” The idea of abandoning Google as my favorite bookmark crosses my mind time and again.
