“IS YOUR JOB SAFE IN THE MACHINE AGE?” (February 10, 2014)

Thus the Financial Times today. A rhetorical question, no doubt whatsoever. In the fullness of time, robots will perhaps spare only bankers and politicians, if anyone. But I could still not suppress a smile at the question. For my job is as safe as safe can be. Both as a pensioner and as a marginal scribbler, I am nigh unassailable. Which is why I skipped the article. It is meant for those whose jobs are not safe, and there are zillions of them across the globe. I can only hope that there will be enough of them around as long as I am alive so that my pensions keep coming to my bank accounts without let or hindrance. And so that I can keep poking fun at everything under the sun. The vaunted machine age included, it goes without saying.
