“GROWING FOCUS ON ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT IN POLITICAL ADS” (October 21, 2014)
Thus The New York Times today. “From every angle, campaigns for Democratic and Republican candidates are targeting voters concerned about energy and climate change,” explains the newspaper. Alleluia! Times are changing at long last! Politicians will soon be battling with each other in terms of their green record. Greener than thou will be the war cry of them all. But nothing they manage to do will make an iota of a difference. Zilch. All the remains is sheer bravado, for climate change is not susceptible to political maneuvering. It will proceed unimpeded, and it will get ever more dramatic as years go by. Sadly, all the politicians will manage to do is to confuse the electorate ever more about what is to be done. Instead of focusing on disaster management, the only option left at this stage, they will meander hither and thither in futile attempts to stop climate change. It cannot be stopped, though. In short, politics in any shape or form is a waste of time. When it comes to survival, direct communal action is the only way to go.
