LIKE FLIES (September 29, 2009)

Eye-catching as it is, Motovun attracts moviemakers like flies. Every now and then, a film crew invades one of the two main squares or one of the two main streets. As I write, something is being filmed on the upper square. Judging by the number of extras from the town, most likely it is a commercial. Each time a film crew trundles our way, I am struck once again by the number of times each scene is retaken. It is often quite painful to watch everything repeated time after time. Having moved all the equipment and all the people to a remote location, the director cannot but make sure to produce a few minutes that can eventually be used in the final product. Which brings me to one more reason why I am not interested in movies. The very process of making them is not to my taste. Not at all. That is, I cannot possibly imagine myself ever wishing to make a movie.
