BILDERBERG, SCHMILDERBERG (May 30, 2009)

I first heard of the Bilderberg Club only a few weeks ago, but today I found an article about it in one of the local newspapers. To my surprise, I even skimmed through it. The mysterious club of movers and shakers meets once a year to discuss world affairs in complete secrecy. They recently met someplace in Greece, and Joe Biden joined them briefly on his way to the Balkans. Etc., etc. As usual, I was overwhelmed by a strong revulsion against the notion of a global conspiracy, which seems to thrive on the periphery of the civilized world, for it is abundantly clear that no conspiracy is capable of conspiring in any useful sense of that word. But then my feelings shifted toward the club of a hundred-odd movers and shakers themselves. Of course, the poor bastards cannot but believe that conspiracy is within their reach. At that point I was briefly weighed down by a feeling of sheer pity. For crying out loud, wealth and power do deserve their petty rewards!
