BAROMETER (April 16, 2009)
It has been overcast and hazy since the morning. And it is noticeably colder than the last few days, too. But the day feels disagreeable for some other reason. Most likely it has to do with atmospheric pressure. Chances are that it is quite low. Anyhow, people I have bumped into have reported similar symptoms to those I have experienced myself ever since I got up this morning: general dullness, lack of energy, creaking joints, and low spirits. The first time I have experienced such things was during a bout of similar weather a month or two ago. Could it be that something special is happening in the atmosphere as of late? Or should I attribute most of my symptoms to my advancing age? Come to think of it, it would not be a bad idea to acquire a plain barometer. Ah, ever a scientist…
Addendum (June 5, 2009)
A plain barometer? Ever a scientist, I went for a wireless weather station instead. Made in Germany, the hefty electronic gadget connects to weather satellites to provide data on atmospheric pressure, humidity, and so on. A marvel of modern technology, it will take a while to figure out, though. Written in five languages, the manual that comes with the weather station is quite impressive, as well. Anyhow, I am sure to master my new toy in a week or two. Soon enough I will become a pro when it comes to weather. “Rain?” I will repeat after friends casting worried glances toward the sky, my face pinched in haughty disbelief. “Nah!”
