“I LOVE YOU” (June 4, 2009)
“Imagine,” exclaims a fellow sitting next to me in a crowded café as a friend of his approaches, “someone’s scratched ‘I love you’ with a nail all over my car!” His friend frowns. “I love you!” the fellow repeats and shakes his head. “All over the car!” Both of them roughly my age, they frown together. “Front, sides, and back,” the aggrieved fellow continues. “I love you, I love you!” They both shake their heads. “Imagine,” yells the fellow as another friend our age approaches, “someone’s scratched ‘I love you’ with a nail all over my car!” The three of them frown and shake their heads. “I love you!” the fellow repeats and raises his hands in the air. My morning coffee spoiled, I get up to leave. Yet another friend is sure to appear any moment now.
