A TAD UNEASY (January 24, 2008)

The bora started blowing two nights ago. By yesterday morning it swept the Mirna valley clean, but it was quite cold most of the day yesterday. It is different today. The valley is still sparkling, but the wind has gradually died down. Slowly but surely, it has become warmer. By the early afternoon, it has become quite balmy. Once again, it is a special joy to be sitting on my terrace in mid-winter. This time I am a tad uneasy, though. The very same bora that brought this delightful weather to Istria also rampaged through parts of Dalmatia. The stark images of overturned trucks and mangled road signs from today’s newspapers pop up in my mind precisely when I start sinking in the miraculous landscape in front of me.
